Weight ManagementWeight Management

Laura doesn’t believe we’re a nation accepting and embracing our ever-increasing size – she believes we’re a nation reluctantly investing in Spanx pants and dimmer switches whilst labouring under the misapprehension that weight gain is inevitable, and change impossible. But as a former smoker who used to carry a few extra stone, Laura has a firm belief that if she can do it, anyone can.

Laura's 10 Deadly Diet Sins

  1. Depriving yourself. Avoiding your fave foods will only last so long – then you’ll break out and go nuts, and write off all that hard work.
  2. Not getting around to exercising. Don’t rely on calorie reduction alone to shift those pounds; exercise burns cals and raises your metabolic rate too.
  3. Thinking your lunch is healthier than it is. Avocados, salmon, nuts…they’re all wonderful sources of healthy essential fats, but as far as your waistline’s concerned, all fats are created equal.
  4. Mindless munching. Keep snacking to a minimum and keep your weakness foods out of the house. That way you won’t fall prey to the biscuit tin after a hard day at work.
  5. Rewarding yourself with food. Don’t do it! Had a hard day? Think a massage, a new pair of jeans or some pricey bubble bath – anything but a bar of chocolate.
  6. Making excuses. The kids’ leftovers will invariably look tempting after a hard day, and it’ll always be someone’s birthday in the office, but don’t get into the habit of eating at every opportunity.
  7. Food-shopping on an empty stomach. Go after you’ve eaten – the ice cream aisle won’t be calling you in quite the same way as it will when your blood sugar level’s on the floor.
  8. Fearing carbs. Don’t listen to the so-called experts who tell you to limit carbs or restrict them after 8pm. Your body needs carbs - they’re its preferred fuel source, in fact.
  9. Drinking your calories. Whether your liquid fix is full-fat lattes or large glasses of Rioja, liquid calories can equal waistline suicide.
  10. Taking the weekend off. Re-jig your eating at the weekend by all means, but don’t abandon your weekly efforts – if you overdo it at the weekend, it could be all be in vain

Whether you’re someone who’d welcome the chance to be guided and motivated to shift a few pounds, or someone who just wants to talk diet and fitness with Laura, she’d love to hear from you.
