7 Reasons Why Your Diet Might Not Work

A quarter of us are trying to shed the pounds at any one time but new research claims cutting calories doesn’t have any effect.

…One of these reasons is poor restraint. But this isn’t about having an addictive personality insists Laura Williams, a personal trainer and Zotrim’s fitness consultant. “We are programmed to want more of something we particularly like, no more so than when we’ve had a period of abstinence. Because foods high in fat and sugar naturally appeal to human beings, the very ones the dieter is working so hard to avoid are the same ones they’re likely to wind up eating.”

…The final reason is hormonal. Studies show that dieting reduces the secretion of hormones such as leptin that help to control food intake. Falling levels can therefore contribute to diet failure, “Reduced leptin is the enemy of dieting,” explains Laura. “When you’re hungry, it drops and the body cries out for you to participate in food-seeking activity. One of the most popular diet myths of the moment is not to eat carbohydrates in the evenings but if you eat protein alone, your leptin levels will take a nosedive and you’ll wake up famished.”
