Fitness Files

Each month, we analyse and rate a reader's fitness diary and kit, then get our experts to make over their workout and their look…

Vicky Deejua, 22, healthcare assistant.
"I've joined a gym, but feel too self-conscious to go…At the moment my exercise regime consists of the occasional walk...I feel really overweight and unfit and have no muscle tone…the foods I crave are the fatty convenience foods that are served in my work canteen."

"Vicky's body fat level is just within the healthy range. It's very close to 30%, however, and, at her age, she should be aiming for about 25%,' says personal trainer Laura Williams (www.laurawilliamsonline.co.uk). "I've suggested she kickstarts her fitness regime with a four-week home cardio plan. If she reduces her food intake as well, she'll see results quite quickly."

"Vicky loves comfort food, so I've suggested she cuts down on rather than cut out these foods," says Williams.

Vicky's Verdict
"Laura showed me how to break down my workout into small chunks, doing ten or 20 minutes of an exercise DVD or short sessions of alternating fast and slow running. I'm eating more healthily, too, and it's paying off! I've lost 7lb in two weeks."
